“Justice For God’s Beloved People” – Nahum 1:1-15

1.  The burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

2.  God is jealous, and the Lord avenges; the Lord avenges and is furious.  The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserves wrath for His enemies;

3.  The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked.  The Lord has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

4.  He rebukes the sea and makes it dry, and dries up all the rivers.  Bashan and Carmel wither, and the flower of Lebanon wilts.

5.  The mountains quake before Him, the hills melt, and the earth heaves at His presence, yes, the world and all who dwell in it.

6.  Who can stand before His indignation?  And who can endure the fierceness of His anger?  His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by Him.

7.  The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.

8.  But with an overflowing flood he will make an utter end of its place, and darkness will pursue His enemies.

9.  What do you conspire against the Lord?  He will make an utter end of it.  Affliction will not rise up a second time.

10.  For while tangled like thorns, and while drunken like drunkards, they shall be devoured like stubble fully dried.

11.  From you comes forth one  Who plots evil against the Lord, a wicked counselor.

12.  Thus says the Lord:  “Though they are safe, and likewise many, yet in this manner they will be cut down when he passes through.  Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more;

13.  For now I will break off his yoke from you, and burst your bonds apart.”

14.  The Lord has given a command concerning you:  “Your name shall be perpetuated no longer.  Out of the house of your gods I will cut off the carved image and the molded image.  I will dig your grave, for you are vile.

15.  Behold, on the mountains the feet of him who brings good tidings, who proclaims peace!  O Judah, keep your appointed feasts, perform your vows.  For the wicked one shall no more pass through you; he is utterly cut off.

“Justice and Righteousness Reign” – Isaiah 9:2-9

2.  The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.

3.  You have multiplied the nation and increased its joy; they rejoice before You according to the joy of harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

4.  For You have broken the yoke of his burden and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

5.  For every warrior’s sandal from the noisy battle, and garments rolled in blood, will be used for burning and fuel of fire.

6.  For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.  And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7.  Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever.  The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

“David Administers Justice and Kindness” – 2 Samuel 9:1-7, 9-12

1.  Now David said, “Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

2.  And there was a servant of the house of Saul whose name was Ziba.  So, when they had called him to David, the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?”  He said, “At your service!”

3.  Then the king said, “Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, to whom I may show the kindness of God?”  And Ziba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan who is lame in his feet.”

4.  So the king said to him, “Where is he?”  And Ziba said to the king, “Indeed he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo Debar.”

5.  Then King David sent and brought him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo Debar.

6.  Now when Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, had come to David, he fell on his face and prostrated himself. Then David said, “Mephibosheth?”  And he answered, “Here is your servant!”

7.  So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.”

9.  And the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “I have given to your master’s son all that belonged to Saul and to all his house.

10.  You therefore, and your sons and your servants, shall work the land for him, and you shall bring in the harvest, that your master’s son may have food to eat.  But Mephibosheth your master’s son shall eat bread at my table always.”  Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

11.  Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king has commanded his servant, so will your servant do.”  “As for Mephibosheth,” said the king, “he shall eat at my table like one of the king’s sons.”

12.  Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Micha.  And all who dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants of Mephibosheth.

“Justice and Obedience To The Law” – Deuteronomy 5:1-3;10:12-13; 27:1-10

1.  And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: “Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your hearing today, that you may learn them and be careful to observe them.

2.  The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.

3.  The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today, all of us who are alive.

12.  “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

13.  And to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good?

1  Now Moses, with the elders of Israel, commanded the people, saying: “Keep all the commandments which I command you today.

2.  And it shall be, on the day when you cross over the Jordan to the land which the Lord your God is giving you, that you shall set up for yourselves large stones, and whitewash them with lime.

3.  You shall write on them all the words of this law, when you have crossed over, that you may enter the land which the Lord your God is giving you, ‘a land flowing with milk and honey,’ just as the Lord God of your fathers promised you.

4.  Therefore it shall be, when you have crossed over the Jordan, that on Mount Ebal you shall set up these stones, which I command you today, and you shall whitewash them with lime.

5.  And there you shall build an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones; you shall not use an iron tool on them.

6.  You shall build with whole stones the altar of the Lord your God, and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God.

7.  You shall offer peace offerings, and shall eat there, and rejoice before the Lord your God.

8.  And you shall write very plainly on the stones all the words of this law.”

9.  Then Moses and the priests, the Levites, spoke to all Israel, saying, “Take heed and listen, O Israel: This day you have become the people of the Lord your God.

10.  Therefore you shall obey the voice of the Lord your God, and observe His commandments and His statutes which I command you today.”

“Good News For All” – Acts 10:34-47

34.  Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.

35.  But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

36.  The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all—

37.  That word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:

38.  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

39.  And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.

40.  Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly,

41.  Not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.

42.  And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.

43.  To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”

44.  While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.

45.  And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

46.  For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.  Then Peter answered,

47.  “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”

“Rejoicing In Heaven” – Revelation 19:1-9

1.  After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!

2.  For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.”

3.  Again they said, “Alleluia! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!”

4.  And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying, “Amen! Alleluia!”

5.  Then a voice came from the throne, saying, “Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!”

6.  And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thundering, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!

7.  Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”

8.  And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

9.  Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.”

15.  Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”

16.  And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God,

17.  Saying:  “We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was and who is to come, because You have taken Your great power and reigned.

18.  The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, and those who fear Your name, small and great, and should destroy those who destroy the earth.”

19.  Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple.  And there were lightnings, noises, thundering, an earthquake, and great hail.

“All People Praise God” – Revelation 7:9-17

9.  After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

10.  And crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

11.  All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

12.  Saying:  “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever.  Amen.”

13.  Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?”

14.  And I said to him, “Sir, you know.”  So he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15.  Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple.  And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them.

16.  They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat;

17.  For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to [c]living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

3.  Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she places her young near Your altars, O LORD of Hosts, my King and my God.

8.  O LORD God of Hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob.  Selah

9.  Take notice of our shield, O God, and look with favor on the face of Your anointed.

10.  For better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere.  I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

11.  For the LORD God is a sun and a shield; the LORD gives grace and glory; He withholds no good thing from those who walk with integrity.

12.  O LORD of Hosts, how blessed is the man who trusts in You!

2.  Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,

3.  And gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

4.  They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way; they found no city to dwell in.

39.  When they are diminished and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow,

40.  He pours contempt on princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way;

42.  The righteous see it and rejoice, and all iniquity stops its mouth.

43.  Whoever is wise will observe these things, and they will understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.

“Believers Praise God” – Acts 2:32-33, 37-47

32.  This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.

33.  Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

37.  Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

38.  Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

39.  For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

40.  And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”

41.  Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

42.  And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

43.  Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.

44.  Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,

45.  And sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

46.  So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,

47.  Praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

“Glorifying God” – Mark 10:46-52

46.  Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging.

47.  And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

48.  Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

49.  So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.  Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer.  Rise, He is calling you.”

50.  And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.

51.  So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”  The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”

52.  Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

“David Dances Before the Ark” – 2 Samuel 6:1-5, 14-19

1.  Again David gathered all the choice men of Israel, thirty thousand.

2.  And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the Lord of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim.

3.  So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.

4.  And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark.

5.  Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the Lord on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals.

14.  Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod.

15.  So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.

16.  Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

17.  So they brought the ark of the Lord, and set it in its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it.  Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

18.  And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts.

19.  Then he distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israel, both the women and the men, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins.  So all the people departed, everyone to his house.

“Moses and Miriam Praise God” – Exodus 15:11-21

11.  “Who is like You, O Lord, among the [b]gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?

12.  You stretched out Your right hand; The earth swallowed them.

13.  You in Your mercy have led forth The people whom You have redeemed; You have guided them in Your strength To Your holy habitation.

14.  “The people will hear and be afraid; Sorrow[c] will take hold of the inhabitants of Philistia.

15.  Then the chiefs of Edom will be dismayed; The mighty men of Moab, Trembling will take hold of them; All the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away.

16.  Fear and dread will fall on them; By the greatness of Your arm They will be as still as a stone, Till Your people pass over, O Lord, Till the people pass over Whom You have purchased.

17.  You will bring them in and plant them In the mountain of Your inheritance, In the place, O Lord, which You have made For Your own dwelling, The sanctuary, O Lord, which Your hands have established.

18.  “The Lord shall reign forever and ever.”

19.  For the horses of Pharaoh went with his chariots and his horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought back the waters of the sea upon them. But the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

20.  Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

21.  And Miriam answered them: “Sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!”

“Hope Eternal” – 2 Corinthians 4:16-18; 5:1-10

16.  Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

17.  For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,

18.  while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

1.  For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2.  For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven,

3.  If indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked.

4.  For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life.

5.  Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

6.  So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord.

7.  For we walk by faith, not by sight.

8.  We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

9.  Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.

10.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

“A Conquering Faith” – 1 John 4: 2-3, 13-17; 5:4-5

2.  By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,

3.  And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

13.  By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.

14.  And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.

15.  Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

16.  And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

17.  Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

4.  For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

5.  Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

“A Persevering Faith” – Hebrews 10:23-36

23.  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

24.  And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,

25.  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

26.  For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

27.  But a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.

28.  Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

29.  Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

30.  For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord will judge His people.”

31.  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32.  But recall the former days in which, after you were illuminated, you endured a great struggle with sufferings:

33.  Partly while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and partly while you became companions of those who were so treated;

34.  For you had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven.

35.  Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.

36.  For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

“The Meaning Of Faith” – Romans 11:3-8, 13-16

1.  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

2.  For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.

3.  By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

4.  By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.

5.  By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

6.  But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

7.  By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

8.  By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

13.  These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

14.  For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland.

15.  And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return.

16.  But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country.  Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

“Salvation For All Who Believe” – Romans 10:5-17

5.  For concerning the righteousness that is by the law, Moses writes: “The man who does these things will live by them.”

6.  But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down)

7.  Or, ‘Who will descend into the Abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).”

8.  But what does it say?  “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming:

9.  That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

10.  For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.

11.  It is just as the Scripture says:  “Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.”

12.  For there is no difference between Jew and Greek:  The same Lord is Lord of all, and gives richly to all who call on Him,

13.  For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14.  How then can they call on the One in whom they have not believed?  And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard?  And how can they hear without someone to preach?

15.  And how can they preach unless they are sent?  As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

16.  But not all of them welcomed the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”

17.  Consequently, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

“The Faith Of Abraham” – Romans 5:1-11

1.  Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

2.  Through whom we also have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we celebrate in hope of the glory of God.

3.  And not only this, but we also celebrate in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance;

4.  And perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;

5.  And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

6.  For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

7.  For one will hardly die for a righteous person; though perhaps for the good person someone would even dare to die.

8.  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

9.  Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.

10.  For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

11.  And not only this, but [g]we also celebrate in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

“The Faith Of Abraham” – Romans 4:1-12

1.  What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, has discovered?

2.  If Abraham was indeed justified by works, he had something to boast about, but not before God.

3.  For what does the Scripture say?  “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

4.  Now the wages of the worker are not credited as a gift, but as an obligation.

5.  However, to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

6.  And David speaks likewise of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:

7.  “Blessed are they whose lawless acts are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

8.  Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.”

9.  Is this blessing only on the circumcised, or also on the uncircumcised?  We have been saying that Abraham’s faith was credited to him as righteousness.

10.  In what context was it credited?  Was it after his circumcision, or before?  It was not after, but before.

11.  And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised.  So then, he is the father of all who believe but are not circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.

12.  And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

“The Power Of The Gospel” – Romans 1:8-17

8.  First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being proclaimed all over the world.

9.  God, whom I serve with my spirit in preaching the gospel of His Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you

10.  In my prayers at all times, asking that now at last by God’s will I may succeed in coming to you.

11.  For I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you,

12.  That is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.

13.  I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, how often I planned to come to you (but have been prevented from visiting until now), in order that I might have a harvest among
you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.

14.  I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.

15.  That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.

16.  I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek.

17.  For the gospel reveals the righteousness of God that comes by faith from start to finish just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

“An Attitude of Gratitude” – Leviticus 13:45-46; Luke 17:11-19

45.  “Now the leper on whom the sore is, his clothes shall be torn and his head bare; and he shall cover his mustache, and cry, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’

46.  He shall be unclean.  All the days he has the sore he shall be unclean.  He is unclean, and he shall dwell alone; his dwelling shall be outside the camp.

11.  Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

12.  Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off.

13.  And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

14.  So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.”  And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.

15.  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God,

16.  And fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks.  And he was a Samaritan.

17.  So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?

18.  Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

19.  And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”

“Why Do You Doubt” – Matthew 14:22-33

22.  Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds.

23.  After He had sent them away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone,

24.  But the boat was already far from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25.  During the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea.

26.  When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and cried out in fear.

27.  But Jesus spoke up at once: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”

28.  “Lord, if it is You,” Peter replied, “command me to come to You on the water.”

29.   “Come,” said Jesus.  Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus.

30.  But when he saw the strength of the wind,c he was afraid, and beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31.  Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?”

32.  And when they had climbed back into the boat, the wind died down.

33.  Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God!”

“Healed By Faith” – Matthew 9:18-26

18.  While Jesus was saying these things, a synagogue leader came and knelt before Him. “My daughter has just died,” he said. “But come and place Your hand on her, and she will live.”

19.  So Jesus got up and went with him, along with His disciples.

20.  Suddenly a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak.

21.  She said to herself, “If only I touch His cloak, I will be healed.”

22.  Jesus turned and saw her. “Take courage, daughter,” He said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was cured from that very hour.

23..  When Jesus entered the house of the synagogue leader, He saw the flute players and the noisy crowd.

24.  “Go away,” He told them. “The girl is not dead, but asleep.” And they laughed at Him.

25.  After the crowd had been put outside, Jesus went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up.

26.  And the news about this spread throughout that region.

“Why Are You Afraid?” – Matthew 8:23-27

23.  When He got into the boat, His disciples followed Him.

24.  Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was engulfed by the waves; but Jesus was sleeping.

25.  The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

26.  “You of little faith,” Jesus replied, “why are you so afraid?” Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and it was perfectly calm.

27.  The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey Him!”

“Why Do You Worry?” – Matthew 6:25-34

25.  Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

26.  Look at the birds of the air:  They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?

27.  Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

28.  And why do you worry about clothes?  Consider how the lilies of the field grow:  They do not labor or spin.

29.  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.

30.  If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31.  Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

32.  For the Gentiles strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

33.  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.

34.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Today has enough trouble of its own.

“Jonah: Fiery Harbinger Of Doom” – Jonah 3:1-10

1. Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:

2.  Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message that I give you.

3.  This time Jonah got up and went to Nineveh, in accordance with the word of the LORD.  Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, requiring a three-day journey.

4.  On the first day of his journey, Jonah set out into the city and proclaimed, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned!”

5.  And the Ninevites believed God.  They proclaimed a fast and dressed in sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.

6.  When word reached the king of Nineveh, he got up from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

7.  Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: “By the decree of the king and his nobles:  Let no man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything at all.  They must not eat or drink.

8.  Furthermore, let both man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and have everyone call out earnestly to God.  Let each one turn from his evil ways and from the violence in his hands.

9.  Who knows?  God may turn and relent; He may turn from His fierce anger, so that we will not perish.”

10.  When God saw their actions—that they had turned from their evil ways—He relented from the disaster He had threatened to bring upon them.

“Ezekiel: Street Preacher to the Exiles” – Ezekiel 18:1-9, 30-32

1.  Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

2.  What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:  The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the teeth of the children are set on edge?

3.  As surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.

4.  Behold, every soul belongs to Me; both father and son are Mine. The soul who sins is the one who will die.

5.  Now suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right:

6.  He does not eat at the mountain or look to the idols of the house of Israel.  He does not defile his neighbor’s wife or approach a woman during her period.

7.  He does not oppress another, but restores the pledge to the debtor.  He does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.

8.  He does not engage in usury or take excess interest, but he withholds his hand from iniquity and executes true justice between men.

9.  He follows My statutes and faithfully keeps My ordinances.  That man is righteous; surely, he will live, declares the Lord GOD.

30.  Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each according to his ways, declares the Lord GOD. Repent and turn from all your transgressions, so that your iniquity will not become your downfall.

31.  Cast away from yourselves all the transgressions you have committed, and fashion for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, O house of Israel?

32.  For I take no pleasure in anyone’s death, declares the Lord GOD. So repent and live!

“Jeremiah:  The Suffering Preacher Of Doom” – Jeremiah 38:14-28

14.  Then King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah the prophet and received him at the third entrance to the house of the LORD. “I am going to ask you something,” said the king to Jeremiah. “Do not hide anything from me.”

15.  “If I tell you,” Jeremiah replied, “you will surely put me to death. And even if I give you advice, you will not listen to me.”

16.  But King Zedekiah swore secretly to Jeremiah, “As surely as the LORD lives, who has given us this life, I will not kill you, nor will I deliver you into the hands of these men who are seeking your life.”

17.  Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “This is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you indeed surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then you will live, this city will not be burned down, and you and your household will survive.

18.  But if you do not surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then this city will be delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans. They will burn it down, and you yourself will not escape their grasp.’”

19.  But King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid of the Jews who have deserted to the Chaldeans, for the Chaldeans may deliver me into their hands to abuse me.”

20.  “They will not hand you over,” Jeremiah replied. “Obey the voice of the LORD in what I am telling you, that it may go well with you and you may live.

21.  But if you refuse to surrender, this is the word that the LORD has shown me:

22.  All the women who remain in the palace of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon, and those women will say: ‘They misled you and overcame you—those trusted friends of yours.  Your feet sank into the mire, and they deserted you.’

23.  All your wives and children will be brought out to the Chaldeans.  And you yourself will not escape their grasp, for you will be seized by the king of Babylon, and this city will be burned down.”

24.  Then Zedekiah warned Jeremiah, “Do not let anyone know about this conversation, or you will die.

25.  If the officials hear that I have spoken with you, and they come and demand of you, ‘Tell us what you said to the king and what he said to you; do not hide it from us, or we will kill you,’

26.  Then tell them, ‘I was presenting to the king my petition that he not return me to the house of Jonathan to die there.’ ”

27.  When all the officials came to Jeremiah and questioned him, he relayed to them the exact words the king had commanded him to say.  So, they said no more to him, for no one had overheard the conversation.

28.  And Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guard until the day Jerusalem was captured.

“Isaiah: Offering Hope For The Future” – Isaiah 29:13-24

13.  And the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw nigh unto me, and with their mouth and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which hath been taught them:

14.  Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder: and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

15.  Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

16.  Ye turn things upside down! Shall the potter be counted as clay; that the thing made should say of him that made it, He made me not; or the thing framed say of him that framed it, He hath no understanding?

17.  Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be counted for a forest?

18.  And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness.

19.  The meek also shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

20.  For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner ceaseth, and all they that watch for iniquity are cut off:

21.  That make a man an offender in a cause, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just with a thing of nought.

22.  Therefore thus saith the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.

23.  But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name; yea, they shall sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall stand in awe of the God of Israel.

24.  They also that err in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmur shall learn doctrine.

“Micaiah: Speaking Truth To Power” – 1 Kings 22:15-23, 26-28

15.  When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against Ramoth-gilead, or should we refrain?”  “Go up and triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for the LORD will give it into the hand of the king.”

16.  But the king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear not to tell me anything but the truth in the name of the LORD?”

17.  So Micaiah declared:  “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd.  And the LORD said, ‘These people have no master; let each one return home in peace.’”

18.  Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he never prophesies good for me, but only bad?”

19.  Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by Him on His right and on His left.

20.  And the LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab to march up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’  And one suggested this, and another that.

21.  Then a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will entice him’.  ‘By what means?’ asked the LORD.

22.  And he replied, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.’  ‘You will surely entice him and prevail,’ said the LORD. ‘Go and do it.’

23.  So you see, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has pronounced disaster against you.”

26.  And the king of Israel declared, “Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son,

27.  And tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’ ”

28.  But Micaiah replied, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Take heed, all you people!”
