Throwing Caution To The Wind Fine Points

Greetings Flag Branch members and friends and thanks for taking the time to join me, Pastor Jordan, for some Fine Points from Sunday’s service and message “Throwing Caution To The Wind”.

Thankfully we were able to broadcast, record and stream our live service yesterday without any noticeable or reported problems after two weeks of technical problems in a row.  If you attempted to join us online last week and were not able to find us, I hope you were able to be with us yesterday.

Caution helps to keep us safe and prevent us from doing reckless and foolish things that can prove harmful and dangerous.  The same can be said of our relationship with God.  Regardless of our belief in and standing with God, people have been careful or cautious with respect to the possibility of having to answer for our actions and the harm they may cause to ourselves and others.

But lately, more and more people are setting this caution aside to pursue whatever agenda or priority we may have without regards to the consequences, both immediate and eternal, they may have.  This type of approach to has been called throwing caution to the wind.  America, along with some other nations in general, have been following this approach with respect to God, our neighbors and the environment among other things.

This type of reckless behavior has cost many people throughout history to lose many things of value including whole kingdoms and civilizations.  People today are saying things they know are not true, are putting the lives of many people in jeopardy, are willing to make up things to justify their actions, and are deceiving and being deceived.

As a result, people are confused and don’t know who or what to believe any more.  We are becoming depressed and suicidal and harming ourselves and others.  It is difficult to remain positive and hopeful in such an environment especially without a reason for believing things will improve.

In the sermon, I attempted to point out this dangerous trend of casting caution aside as it relates to God and morality in order to pursue the idols we are building with our hands.  It leaves us without compassion for our neighbors and fellow citizens which leads to a decline in society and incurs God’s judgement on our selfish and wicked behavior.

As Christians we must be hopeful and resist attempts to turn us away from each and the God who made us.  Our first motto should be to do no harm.  Jesus taught us to love our neighbors as ourselves.  We can’t do this being selfish in our attitudes and not have compassion and empathy for the needs of others.

We have thrown caution to the wind when we no longer are concerned or indifferent with what God thinks and will say about what we have become in regards to the consequences of our actions upon ourselves and others and respect for His Holy and Divine name.
